Press Statement:  On the eve of the first round of municipal layoffs, a coalition of civil service based organizations and elected officials join District Council 37-Local 371 president, Faye Moore in denouncing Mayor Bloomberg’s layoff plan.  On Friday, February 20th 165 employees of the New York City Housing Authority employed at community centers throughout the City are scheduled to be laid off. Mayor Bloomberg’s budget address included possible layoffs for as many as 23,000 municipal workers. The coalition of organizations is calling for a detailed analysis and report of the potential impact of the possible layoffs on Blacks and Latinos.  100 Blacks in Law Enforcement Who Care co-founder Marquez Claxton states, “There needs to be an impact study and report to determine if the civil service titles occupied predominately by Blacks and Latinos are being targeted for possible layoffs.  We cannot sit idly by and allow any group to be disproportionately impacted by these layoffs.  Lack of vision, planning and courage by the Mayor is threatening to destabilize the working and middle class of this City.”
