Press Statement:  In response to Mayor Bloomberg’s budget statement indicating the possibility of 23,000 layoffs, a coalition of organizations is calling for an immediate, detailed and specific analysis/impact report from the New York City Office of Management & Budget to determine whether the municipal layoffs will disproportionately target the Black and Latino municipal workforce.   100 Blacks in Law Enforcement Who Care Co-founder Marquez Claxton states, “It would be an unconscionable act to place further burden on communities that have already been targeted by predatory lending, sub-standard housing, limited health care services and inadequate education.  The working poor and the struggling middle class should not always be the primary target for the Mayor and his budget managers.” National latino officers association Executive Chairman Anthony Miranda states, “The Mayor needs to supply the specific targeted titles and their demographics to ensure that the pain will be spread evenly throughout all the communities.”
