Family of Queens teen asks her killer to surrender

Wednesday, May 21st 2008, 4:00 AM

The family of a Queens teen gunned down by a stray bullet is urging her killer to surrender.

Brandon Bethea, 15, was shot in the head outside the Redfern Houses in Far Rockaway Saturday night while attending a party for her boyfriend.

The eighth-grader’s family had lived in the housing project but recently moved to Jamaica to escape the violence.

“Whoever did this – turn yourself in,” said Robert Drakeford, Brandon’s stepfather. “We don’t need any more bloodshed, any more violence.”

The neighborhood has experienced a spike in violence in the last week.

Tyreece Johnson, 16, was killed Monday afternoon as he walked into a bodega in Far Rockaway. The day before, five people were shot on the same corner.

Marq Claxton, a co-founder of 100 Blacks in Law Enforcement Who Care, said his group is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of Brandon’s killer.

A wake for the teenager will be held today at Gilmore Funeral Home in St. Albans.
